Using the Sensory Arch through baby's first months

A newborn's eyesight develops rapidly in the first half-year. In the early weeks, babies see best at 8-12 inches, mainly noticing bold contrasts. As their visual system matures, they begin to recognise simple shapes, then hints of colour, and eventually, more detailed patterns. The arch is designed to grow with this development, offering age-appropriate imagery at a distance babies can see clearly.

0 - 2 months

In the first weeks, babies rely on hich-contrast shapes to make sense of the world. Their vision is still fuzzy, and clear focus only happens at close range. Simple, strong contrast helps 'wake up' the visual pathways their brain is building.

2 - 4 months

By around 2 months, babies befin coordinating their eye movements better and can track motion more smoothly. Their colour vision is emerging and the first colours they tend to detect are red and yellow. Adding small touches of these colours keeps images engaging without overwhelming them.

4 - 6 months

Around 4 months, babies experience a big leap in visual clarity. Depth perception improves, their colour vision becomes richer, and they start recognising more complex shapes and patterns. They're ready for more complex images and additional colours that gently challenge their growing skills.
